Paid Time Off

Flexible Vacation
There is not a definite number of days that an employee may take off each year, but we do encourage people to take at least 20 days per year, if not more. Requests are subject to denial based on business need.

Sick Time
Ten sick days are accrued per year and can roll over for a maximum allotment of 20 sick days. This can be applied towards personal illness/injury, medical/dental appointments, and immediate family illness.

Other Leave
Please engage with your HR Business Partner directly on how to utilize FMLA, Parental Leave, Disability Leave, and/or other types of leave categories.

Parental Leave

  • POLITICO offers up to 24 weeks of paid parental leave to all parents
  • Leave is available for all types of family expansion including, but not limited to, birth, adoption, fostering, and surrogacy
  • Employees can take leave consecutively or in two non-consecutive blocks within the first year of the birth/placement
  • Please reach out to your HR Business Partner if you anticipate needing to take Parental Leave

Disability Leave

Short-Term and Long-Term Disability give you protected time away from work when a medical condition makes it difficult or unsafe to perform your job. It’s meant to support you during recovery by allowing you to step back from your responsibilities while still maintaining income through the disability benefits process.

You can use this leave when a non-work illness, injury, or pregnancy-related condition keeps you from working for an extended period. Once your absence begins, you notify MetLife and they confirm whether your time away qualifies. While you’re out, they stay in touch with you and your provider to track your recovery and help determine when it’s appropriate to return.
This leave is an important resource because it gives you space to focus on your health without worrying about job security or income loss. It also provides structure around your time away, making it easier to plan, stay informed, and transition back to work when you’re ready.

POLITICO provides 12 paid holidays per year for all full-time, benefit-eligible employees. Additional holidays may be designated at POLITICO’s discretion.
